YOU ARE…

  • You are mean…
  • You are stupid…
  • You are never going to accomplish anything…
  • Who is ever going to love you…
  • You are ugly…
  • You are a nobody…
  • You are fat…
  • You are disgusting…
  • You are too skinny…
  • You are dumb…
  • You are slow…
  • Your idea will never work…
  • Your marriage/relationship will never work…
  • You won’t finish school…

Sounds horrible doesn’t it? You could never imagine saying some of those things to others, never mind yourself right?! Yet most of you say those same things to yourselves on a daily basis. I’ll be the first to admit I have said some of those very things to myself. If were not telling ourselves some of those mean things, I’m sure we all can think of someone who has said something they shouldn’t have to us.

We are told in Proverbs 18:21, our tongues hold the power of life and death. We ALL know this, but still struggle with idea of speaking life into our OWN situations. We find it easier to believe and speak into others’ lives that God will do for them what he seems to take forever to do for us. We are quick to scold someone for speaking negative thoughts, while we struggle to find the positives in our situations. We all will fall, but it’s up to us to get back up and keep pushing toward our ultimate goals. Okay…sounds “cliche” right? I have something for you- I want you to meet Heather Dorniden. Watch this video…

When I first saw this video, I was so inspired. I was quickly reminded that this race represents so many of our stories. How many times do we find ourselves at the top of our game only to fall flat on our faces? To make things worse, Heather was in the lead going into the final lap! Instead of having a pity party, walking off the track, crying and whining, Heather picked herself up and finished the race. But not only did she finish the race, she finished with even more vigor than when she began. She used her fall to push her further into her victory. Can you imagine if Heather had negative thoughts about herself after she fell on the track? She would have NEVER pulled herself up and finished. I bet Heather spoke positive words to herself, she had faith, hope and she had a vision. She never lost sight of her goal…which was to finish the race.

We are all reminded to have faith, for,” Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.” {Hebrews 11:1} for “Faith with out works is dead.” {James 2:14}. Are you seeing how these two go hand in hand? Having faith gives you the confidence you need to believe that what you hope for will happen, which in turn will push you forward to do the work, toward the vision that you have in front of you. Along your journey you will hit bumps in the road and you may even fall, but you must SPEAK LIFE! Speak life into your finances, your marriage, your life, your self-esteem, your job situation…whatever it may be! SO:

  • You are NICE…
  • You are SMART…
  • You WILL ACCOMPLISH EVERYTHING YOU SET OUT TO DO…
  • JESUS LOVES YOU AND GAVE HIS LIFE FOR YOU…
  • You are BEAUTIFUL/HANDSOME…
  • You are SOMEBODY…
  • You are HEALTHY…
  • You are AMAZING…
  • You are INTELLIGENT…
  • You are DILIGENT AND DETERMINED TO FINISH THE RACE…
  • Your idea will CHANGE LIVES AND CREATE OPPORTUNITIES…
  • Your marriage/relationship will BE THE BEST IT’S EVER BEEN…
  • You WILL FINISH SCHOOL…

You will be alright friends…just remember it could be a WHOLE lot worse!
