We have ALL seen this commercial:

Can you guess what were going to discuss today?!

The Cursing Tongue:

James 3:10-12

The Message (MSG)

7-10This is scary: You can tame a tiger, but you can’t tame a tongue—it’s never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. With our tongues we bless God our Father; with the same tongues we curse the very men and women he made in his image. Curses and blessings out of the same mouth!

10-12My friends, this can’t go on. A spring doesn’t gush fresh water one day and brackish the next, does it? Apple trees don’t bear strawberries, do they? Raspberry bushes don’t bear apples, do they? You’re not going to dip into a polluted mud hole and get a cup of clear, cool water, are you?

No matter how you slice this cake, using profane, obscene or vulgar language is unbecoming to a child of God. People use profanity for a number of reasons. They could lack adequate vocabulary to express themselves and therefore they feel they must curse for their words to have impact. They are challenged in the area of effective communication that is direct, clear and without hostility. Some use profanity to release their extreme frustration with a situation…much like our friends in the Orbit video above LOL!

You must first realize that profanity resides in your heart; this will help you to understand that the curse word did not just “slip” out of your mouth. In reality, it slipped out of your heart.

Luke 6:45

45 A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

Only God can change your heart. If you are challenged with profanity, ask Him to purify your heart and mind. Words are mental thoughts, you must practice the mental discipline of casting down profane thoughts and begin to use words that bring life to our innermost being and others.

Today declare:

Cursing does not proceed out of my mouth. Today I give God full charge of my tongue. By His grace I will only speak words that will bring honor to His name.

Love Ya!
