JUST CONFESS…

“Confess your faults one to another.” Jas 5:16

It feels good to live without shame. That doesn’t mean you’ll never stumble, it just means that by God’s grace you’ll get back up. Do you remember when you had to get a “permission slip” to miss school? Some of us have given ourselves permission slips to be weak, because we’ve become weary in the fight. Yes, it’s a long fight, but you can win if you want to! Here’s one of the keys to victory: “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed.” If you are struggling to break a habit that’s trying to break you, God never intended you to do it alone. Whatever your habit or struggle may be, the moment it comes—tell on it! When you do, it begins to lose its power. You say, “Tell who?” Someone who’s been through it, someone who’s compassionate, someone who’ll stand with you in prayer, someone who’ll hold you accountable, someone who’ll keep your confidence. The Bible says: “Pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!…Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves” (Ecc 4:10-12 NIV). Roman soldiers stood back-to-back, protecting each other when the attack was coming from different directions. So, who’s got your back? But a word of caution: confess your faults, not someone else’s! You can never be healed by confessing the faults of others. Confess your faults, and let God heal you. Today God wants to make you whole and set you free to enjoy His blessing. Will you let Him?

No Orange Suit For Me!

So for the past 4 days, on my way to work I would pass the NJDOC bus along 78. Outside of the bus were a total of maybe 15-20 women all dressed in horrid orange jumpsuits. (that’s the fashionista in me lol)

The first day I rode past them I didn’t give them much thought…but by the second and third day I began to imagine myself in their place (I have a nice lil ride to work…lots of time to think lol). Here they were, out on 78 picking up trash…and this was because they had good behavior and could be trusted outside of the jail walls. I imagined what went through their minds being so close to freedom; smelling it, feeling it, hearing it…and yet so far.  I thought about what went on in their minds when they had to turn around and hop onto the bus back to their “home”. I imagined if they replayed in their minds the one decision that caused them to be where they are now; torturing themselves with the “what if’s”. I wondered about their families and children who don’t get to hug them and laugh with them and watch them grow.

Then my mind shifted to us. Here we are with the ability to do all the things these prisoners are not able to do…and yet we choose to hold ourselves captive. We are free and some of us choose to live as prisoners; while there are prisoners who long to be free. The difference between us and the women on the side of the road is something very small…a decision. We can decide each day to walk in the liberty that Christ died for us to have or we can decide to live a life of captivity and bondage. The choice is yours.

When I finally reached my job and my thinking session came to a close I was reminded of something else. Most drivers passing the women picking up trash alongside 78 had many thoughts…none of which were positive. Executives, doctors, administrators, students…all staring, wondering about, criticizing and possibly looking down upon the women of 78. But Jesus, who loves us unconditionally, whether we are walking in liberty or in a state of captivity, never looks down on us! He can bring light in any dark situation, and most importantly…He loves us ALL, no matter what. Whereas some drivers this morning saw losers and nobody’s, Jesus sees the next counselor who’s going to prevent another little girl from making the same mistake she made, He sees the woman who is going to leave jail and become the owner of her own business. So if He sees awesome things for those women who are imprisoned, imagine what plans He has for those of us who are liberated and free!

I may not know all the plans that He has in store for me, but I do know one thing…NO ORANGE SUIT FOR ME! I will walk in the liberty granted to me!
