I loved this picture when I saw it. I thought it was perfect way to illustrate what I wanted to say in today’s post. Our futures, which are bright and full of color are ahead of us…yet some of us are still checking our side mirrors to get a glimpse of where we left. Inside some still find themselves comfortable in their past. Holding on to the feeling of acceptance and being “apart of something”–whether it was good or bad for them…they were comfortable, they knew what to expect, their “friends” were supportive, the world seemed to line up with their every desire. Some people find themselves more at peace in a place in time where they felt in control. Our past is exactly that…our past. We experienced situations and people that many of us would like to forget-which most of us do.  But there are some of us that have proclaimed to have moved on from our past and yet we still flirt with it. Still hang out/chat with old friends, still hang out/visit old places, we haven’t really changed the way we walk, talk or think; we’ve just changed the way we appear.

When we follow God’s will for our lives and not what the “world” says we should do, not only is our outward appearance changed, but He renews our minds and changes the way we think.

The Bible tells us:

Romans 12:2

2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

and my favorite version (The Message) says:

Romans 12:2

Place Your Life Before God

1-2 So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
When God delivers us from our past, when He pulls you out of darkness and into the light, away from things/people that will not contribute to your purpose…there is no need to look back. There is no need to want to “maintain old relationships” that are only going to draw you back in. Your real friends will want you to become better and pursue your purpose.  Stop mulling over past relationships, jobs, people who have hurt you, things that did not work out in the past, bad decisions…God only sees your future ahead and He needs for you to be focused as well. When we lose focus, the enemy slowly creeps in and introduces the very things that draw us back into darkness. All of a sudden you are meeting people who can “relate” to your past and coincidentally have the same interests as you, places that you are familiar from your past are suddenly super available, past opportunities that fell through are all of sudden easily attainable. He will do and present anyone who will keep you from your destiny. You MUST remain steadfast on God’s will for your life.
The biggest difference in knowing if God is working on you and if the enemy is tempting you is simple. Then enemy never wants you to long for more. He wants you right where you are, same horrible influences, same job, same walk, same talk, same look, same everything. When God is working on you-He does not want or need you to be comfortable. He will stretch you, twist you, anger you, make you cry, confuse you and love you all at the same time. Growing and being shaped is a painful but necessary process. You might go through some things that you do not understand, but you can never look back to where you were brought from except to give God glory for bringing you out. Sometimes it can appear to be much easier to ride the wave of comfort-ability rather than fight the current to reach the call on your life. I encourage you to fight the wave and stop flirting with your past.
Walking back into your past will bring you nothing but disappointment and heartache. Your future on the other hand is full of possibilities and as bright as the stars that shine in the sky… I don’t care what anyone tells you! Your past cannot define your future.
When God gives you a “start over”, don’t duplicate your past; create a new future.
Love Ya!

So I’ve always had a passion for inspiring women and girls. I find joy in motivating and inspiring and in turn I become motivated and inspired. So I decided to start an all women’s support group entitled W.E.L.L–Women Excelling Loving Learning. I am so excited about where God is taking this group. To expand the group, I decided to start a group on Facebook and we are up to 173 members in less than 1 month and we’re growing strong! We hosted our first vision board party May 14th and it was awesome! What’s a vision/prayer board you ask? A vision board is a tool used to help clarify, concentrate and maintain focus on a specific life goal. Literally, a vision board is any sort of board on which you display images that represent whatever you want to be, do or have in your life. What is the point? Simply put, we sometimes tend to be a very busy and constantly bombarded by distractions. Making use of vision boards serves several purposes, some of which include helping you to:

  • Identify your vision and give it clarity.
  • Reinforce your daily affirmations.
  • Keep your attention on your intentions

I wanted this picture ^ for the neck brace…but the WHOLE picture made me laugh…so I figured I’d use the picture to make you smile lol! Okay…on to business! Check out what Edna Ferber has to say about looking back…

Living the past is a dull and lonely business; looking back strains the neck muscles, causing you to bump into people not going your way.

HAPPY JUNE 1st!!! With today being the first of the month let today symbolize the beginning of your “new year”. Everyday offers a new opportunity for us to “get it right” and do better than we did the day before. What worked for you last month may not work for you in June; try something different, be better, be different this month. Strive to make a difference in your life, whether its reading more, writing more, exercising and eating better. Setting goals and executing them can be your focus this month, or even deciding to be a better friend, mother, father, wife, husband or employee than you were last month.
Stop straining your neck and looking back….
…at your past that no longer defines who you are, but has already done its job in helping you press forward to who you are supposed to be.
…for those who have abandoned you. There is a reason they will not be in your future. So thank them for leaving you when they did.
…and wondering what could’ve, should’ve, would’ve been and embrace today with an I can, I shall and I will.
…with resentful eyes at those who have let you down and look forward to the lives you will touch to prevent someone else from being let down.
…and blaming other for mistakes you made. Learn from them, press forward and keep someone else from making the mistakes you made.
…because while your looking back…your unable to gaze ahead toward your future.
Make today an eventful day and a great start to what is destined to be an incredible month! And most importantly…stop looking back…prevent the neck pains! Remember our friend Snooki… 🙂
