FOR EVERY NEGATIVE THERE IS A POSITIVE…

So before I hit the hay, I wanted to find a scripture to post on my What Would Jenn Say Facebook fan page (<—-small plug in lol!). I stumbled across an AMAZING website that gave me way more than I could have ever asked for. I thought this would be great to share with you and to keep with you. Print it out. When you start to even begin to feel discouraged or have a negative thought…remember God has a positive response just for you – You no longer have the right to come up with an excuse. I pray you are blessed with what I found and share with you below.

You say: “It’s impossible”
God says: “All things are possible” (Luke 18:27)
Jesus replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

You say: “I’m too tired”
God says: “I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28-30)
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

You say: “Nobody really loves me”
God says: “I love you” (John 3:16 & John 13:34)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

You say: “I can’t go on”
God says: “I will direct your steps” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

You say: “I can’t do it”
God says: “You can do all things” (Philippians 4:13)
I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

You say: “I’m not able”
God says: “I am able” (II Corinthians 9:8)
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all thingsat all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every goodwork.

You say: “It’s not worth it”
God says: “It will be worth it” (Romans 8:28)
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

You say: “I can’t forgive myself”
God says: “I FORGIVE YOU” (I John 1:9 & Romans 8:1)
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

You say: “I can’t manage”
God says: “I will supply all your needs” (Philippians 4:19)
And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus.

You say: “I’m afraid”
God says: “I have not given you a spirit of fear” (2Timothy 1:7)
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

You say: “I’m always worried and frustrated”
God says: “Cast all your cares on ME” (I Peter 5:7)
Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

You say: “I don’t have enough faith”
God says: “I’ve given everyone a measure of faith” (Romans 12:3)
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

You say: “I’m not smart enough”
God says: “I give you wisdom” (I Corinthians 1:30)
It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption.

You say: “I feel all alone”
God says: “I will never leave you or forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5)
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you”

GOOD MORNING TO YA!!!

No matter what happens today, know that God will see you through. The Holy Spirit will give you wisdom and discernment regarding every decision you need to make today.

You are the head and not the tail; You are above and not beneath. You are blessed coming in and blessed going out. You are ready for anything and equal to anything through Christ Jesus. He always causes you to triumph. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. You are strong in the Lord and the power of His might. Today is going to be a great day!

Amen!

Scriptures for today:

  • This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. {Psalm 118:24}
  • It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassion fails not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. {Lamentations 3:22,23}
  • In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your path. {Proverbs 3:6}
  • I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me. {Philippians 4:13}
  • What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? {Romans 8:31}

GET MOOO-VIN!!!!

My inspiration came from cows…yes cows LOL! As you all know I was traveling over the holiday; we drove to New Jersey for Christmas. (pics coming soon lol!) It was on our way home that I became inspired from watching the cows on the side of the road.  They looked so bored munching on hay(yes I am serious LOL! :)), they sit back and watch millions of people pass them by, on their way to their destinations while they continue to do the same thing every – single – day. I immediately thought about those that may feel their lives had no purpose or if they felt stagnant. I began to think about  so many others who become restless and discouraged when their purpose is unclear. It’s easy to become sad and angry when your life starts to become redundant with the constant thought, “what is my purpose?”

So…let’s take a look at the life of a cow:

  • they do the same thing everyday
  • they eat grass and hay
  • they don’t sing, talk or dance
  • they don’t get married or go on dates
  • they don’t have family reunions
  • they don’t shop on black friday
  • Chick-fil-a hangs them from their billboards
  • they don’t wear the latest fashions. (in fact, sometimes they are the latest fashion!)
  • they don’t watch flat screens or read books or have a Wii

Sounds like a pretty boring life right?!  BUT…they have a purpose and although it may not seem like much to you, God created them for a reason. So if cows have purpose…my friend, so do you.

There is nothing holding you back from accomplishing your goals. You are uniquely and wonderfully made in the image of God. You are perfectly detailed, your life is orchestrated in such a way that it WILL directly affect someone and glorify God. Whether it’s opening a business, being the best parent you could be, going to school, becoming a chef, traveling the world, building cars, fixing computers, singing songs, writing a book, becoming a teacher, building houses, being the best manager or sales associate, designing clothes, being an encourager to others, or  becoming a nurse or doctor – whatever it is we ALL have a purpose. NO job or talent is insignificant in the kingdom of God. There is someone in need of your gift.

Yet we let fear hold us back from pursuing our purpose. We allow the discouraging words of others hinder us from chasing our dreams. Please remember that you can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you. That means there is NOTHING that you can’t do without Christ in your corner. It’s already been spoken over your life…no weapons of any kind formed against you shall prosper…so what are you afraid of?!  We sit back and wait…and wait…stop procrastinating! GET MOO-VIN! <–cow humor LOL!

There are exactly 2 days left until we embark on a new year. Spend the next 2 days setting your goals and expectations, weeding out people and old habits, getting focused and determined on living your absolute BEST life.

There is a Nike ad out that says:

“Yesterday, you said tomorrow. Just do it”

Stop putting off for tomorrow what you can do today; after all, tomorrow is not promised. There would be nothing worse than if you lived like a cow and watched the world pass you by. GET MOO-VIN!!! <—(i had to say it again LOL!!)

SHORT AND SWEET…

Hey there!!!

It is always best for you to allow the Word to speak to you. Sometimes in the clouds of thoughts that surround you at any given moment, you can become lost in all the wrong ones. There will always be times when people won’t understand what your feeling or going through; there will be times YOU don’t understand what your feeling or going through :). But there is One that we can ALWAYS count on to know what to say to us, just when we need to hear it the most.

I wanted to list a few of my favorite scriptures for you…not a huge post today…just something to encourage you and keep you pressin’ on toward your greater purpose.  😉

Trust him, and he will help you.

Matthew 6:31-32

Luke 12:7

7 And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.

2 Corinthians 9:8

Philippians 4:6

John 16:33

33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

2 Timothy 1:7

WHAT NEWS STATION DO YOU WORK FOR?

Proverbs 18:8

The Message (MSG)

8 Listening to gossip is like eating cheap candy;
do you really want junk like that in your belly?

******************************************************************************************************************************************

Gossipers are like news anchors…they know all the news, breaking stories and you can count on them to be on the scene in minutes. They have no problem going local, national or international with what they know. If you tune into a gossipers news report…you are just as part of the news as the anchor dishing it out.

So, what news station do you work for/tune into?  “TMZ”–reporting the latest in celebrity gossip news? CNN or Dateline providing up to date, factual, helpful information, that is meant to be informative, educational and thought provoking?

Have you ever engaged in idle and often malicious talk about the personal affairs of another? Have you ever been the receiver of gossip and participated; whether by listening or responding? Gossip, let’s be honest…we’ve ALL done it in barber shop chairs and beauty salons on sunny Saturday mornings, family outings, in school by the locker, at the lunch table…I think you get my drift ;).

I challenge you to ask yourself these questions:

1. Is gossiping the only way you know how to establish camaraderie with others?

2. Do you need to be the center of attention?

3. Does it make you feel superior to know something negative about somebody that the hearer does not know?

4. Are you envious of your subject’s accomplishments?

5. Why are you willing to use the temple of God, your mind and body, as a “trash receptacle” by being a receiver of gossip?

6. What do you plan to do with the information a gossip shares with you?

7. Are you bored with your life and looking for something to do? Are you in need of more meaningful activities? People who are aggressively pursuing their own goals and aspirations are less likely to waste time discussing the affairs of another.

Proverbs 20:19 warns us :

19 Gossips can’t keep secrets,
   so never confide in blabbermouths.

So why would you want someone like that in your company? Someone that you can’t trust. Most importantly, why would you want to be considered one of those people who are untrustworthy and considered a blabbermouth?

I will close today with something all of our parent’s have said to us at one time or another….IF YOU DON’T HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY…DON’T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!

Watch Your Mouth : Day 2 : Flattery

So….I’m a little late for the day 2 lol but better late than never right!?
Day 2 elaborated more on flattery. I am excited to share what the book said about it with some of my notes and observations in there! Take a look below.

DAY 2 : FLATTERY
THESE PEOPLE…FLATTER OTHERS TO GET FAVORS IN RETURN. (Jude 1:16 NLT)

Flattery : a lie covered in a bed of flowery words. Flattery is lying to someone to gain favor- which can be tangible or intangible. Some people flatter to get a promotion, to gain friends or acceptance among their peers; they even flatter for material things; bags, cars etc. Engaging in flattery is clear evidence that you have a lack of faith in God’s ability to provide favor to you.
God showed Esther favor in Esther chapter 2. He gave Daniel favor with one of the king’s officers in Daniel chapter 1. Joseph found favor in Egypt in Genesis chapters 39-41. If God did it for them….can He not do it for you? Certainly He can!

Let’s define favor.

Take a look at what the encyclopedia defines as favor.

favor
The Oxford Pocket Dictionary of Current English | 2009 | 700+ words | Copyright
fa·vor / ˈfāvər/ (Brit. fa·vour)
• n. 1. an attitude of approval or liking (TOWARD US!)
∎ support or advancement given as a sign of approval: overgenerous preferential treatment: a small gift or souvenir
2. an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual

• v. [tr.] 1. feel or show approval or preference for.
∎ give unfairly preferential treatment to: (<— NOT TOO US BUT FOR US! GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOUR ENEMIES! THE BATTLE IS HIS NOT YOURS!)
2. inf. resemble (a parent or relative) in facial features: (WE ARE MADE IN HIS IMAGE!)
3. treat (an injured limb) gently, not putting one’s full weight on it. (HE NEVER WILL PLACE ANYMORE ON US THAN WE CAN BARE! )

WOW! That is favor my friends!!! God’s favor is with you daily- and you don’t have to do a thing to gain it. You don’t have to flatter people to find favor with man when God promises He will never leave us or forsake us!
Psalm 30:5
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his FAVOR lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.

Today, meditate on Job 32:21-22 that says : “I will show partiality to no one, nor will I flatter any man; for if I were skilled in flattery, my Maker would soon take me away” Scripture is very clear on God’s plans for the flatterer. “The Lord shall cut off all flattering lips…” (Psalm 12:3). Now is flattering someone, in which gratification lasts only a moment, REALLY worth being cut off from God’s blessing and favor which last a lifetime?

BERNICE L. McFADDEN

Its all about Excel’n in ’11 and I am honored to present an author that needs to be on your bookshelf, in your iPad or simply in your hands! She is continuing to  trailblaze her way onto the scene with her latest book “Glorious”  which was named the “Book to Watch” by Oprah Winfrey and has just earned Bernice her recent NAACP Image Nomination for Outstanding Literary Work.  Bernice’s books are popping up in book clubs around the country, in homes of everyone who wants to take a journey down history lane and by those who want to be enriched by characters that will transform your world. Bernice shares with us just what it takes to “breathe life back into memory” through her writing and unforgettable characters, what motivates her and everything in between. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you Bernice L. McFadden, and be sure to take notes….you will never want to forget that name.

****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

WHO IS BERNICE L. McFADDEN?

I am the eldest of four children. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. For the most part, most of my education took place in Catholic schools. When I graduated high school I enrolled at The Laboratory Institute of Merchandising. After one year I decided that Fashion was not something I wanted to pursue and turned my attention to the hospitality industry. After I had my daughter, I returned to college to pursue a degree in liberal arts. I spent four semesters at Fordham University before dropping out to pursue my writing career.

*AS A LITTLE GIRL GROWING UP, WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE? DID YOU ALWAYS WANT TO BE A WRITER?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I’ve been writing stories since I was nine years old. Although I did dream about becoming a published author, I didn’t really believe that I would be able to accomplish that goal because for many years, African-American writers were not being published in the numbers they are now.

For a brief time I thought I would work in fashion; then I wanted to work for an international hotel chain or major airlines — only because I love to travel and thought it best that I be employed with a corporation that would offer me travel perks!

*WHAT WAS THE NAME OF YOUR FIRST BOOK AND WHEN WAS IT PUBLISHED?

Sugar and it was published in 2000.

*WHAT CHALLENGES DID YOU FACE BEFORE YOU WERE ABLE TO GET “SUGAR” PUBLISHED?

I shopped Sugar for nearly ten years before it was finally picked up. I had a difficult time finding a home for the novel, because publishers weren’t looking for literary works by African-American writers – they wanted chicklit or more of the sister girl books that were and remain very popular.

* WHAT MOTIVATED YOU TO KEEP GOING? 10 YEARS IS A LONG TIME!

I don’t believe in giving up on my dreams and I’ve always felt deep down in my soul that writing was my purpose in life.

(LESSON: If you know what your purpose in life is…never give it up! What God has planned for you can not be stopped. Delay never means denial!)

*LET’S TALK ABOUT YOUR LATEST BOOK “GLORIOUS”. WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS BOOK VERSUS YOUR OTHER BOOKS? WHAT DOES THIS BOOK MEAN TO YOU?

Glorious is my first full-fledge historical fiction novel. The story spans fifty years, covering the periods that include Jim Crow, The Harlem Renaissance and the opening of the Civil Rights Movement. Blending the truth of American history, this is the story of Easter Venetta Bartlett, a fictional Harlem Renaissance writer whose tumultuous path to success, ruin, and revival offers a candid portrait of the American experience in all its beauty and cruelty.

Glorious holds a very special place in my heart, simply because the protagonist is a writer like myself and I can sympathize and empathize with the challenges she is confronted with.

**Check out Alfre Woodard as she shares her thoughts about “Glorious”**

*WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR FAVORITE BOOK TO WRITE SO FAR?

I loved writing all of my books for very different reasons. Sugar is certainly one of my favorites, because it’s my first novel and I spent nearly a decade writing and rewriting it before it was finally published.

*WHO IS GENEVA HOLLIDAY? HOW DID SHE COME ABOUT?

Geneva Holliday is a pseudonym that I wrote under between 2005 – 2009. I guess you can call her my alter-ego. She is the sassy, light and breezy half of my writing persona.

*GENERALLY, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR YOU TO WRITE A BOOK?

It takes me about a year to complete a book.

*TELL US ABOUT THE MOMENT YOU FOUND OUT YOU WERE GOING TO BE FEATURED IN ‘O’ MAGAZINE AS “AN AUTHOR TO WATCH” .

It was a very exciting time! O magazine was celebrating its 10th anniversary and I was celebrating my 10th anniversary as a writer, so it was a special honor to be featured in that particular issue.

Oprah Magazine

*HOW ABOUT WHEN YOU FIRST FOUND OUT YOU WERE BEING NOMINATED FOR A NAACP AWARD FOR “OUTSTANDING LITERARY WORK”? THAT HAD TO BE EXCITING!!

I was in Ohio, getting ready to head out to lunch with a friend when I got the call from a fellow author. He just kept saying congratulations – but I didn’t know why he was congratulating me! The news had been leaked on Twitter and Facebook before the NAACP had a chance to contact my publisher.

**CHECK BERNICE OUT DURING HER RED CARPET INTERVIEW AT THE NAACP AWARDS LUNCHEON**

*TAKE US TO THE MOMENT YOU REALIZED YOU WERE IN THE MIDDLE OF YOUR DREAMS MANIFESTING. HOW DID YOU FEEL?

I have to admit that every single thing I have consistently prayed for  and dreamed about,  I now have or have had. Life is a wonderous and amazing thing when you realize how it works. I truly believe that your word is your wand – so I put a lot of effort into remaining positive.  My dreams are still manifesting – and it’s a glorious feeling!

*WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 5 YEARS?

I hope to be in a lovely home near the water. That maybe here in the USA or in the caribbean. I want to be able to open my home to writers who will be able to take advantage of the time, space and beauty in order to create stories that move and inform readers.

*WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR SCRIPTURE THAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED?

“We are the hopes and dreams of the slave.” – Maya Angelou  “Still I Rise”

*HOW CAN WE KEEP UP WITH YOU?

You can visit my website www.bernicemcfadden.com to follow me on twitter, add me on facebook or even email me!
****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

WOW!!!! What an awesome interview!! Are you not motivated to chase down your dreams?! Let us all wish Bernice nothing but favor, blessings and continued success!! We love you and look forward to seeing what is ahead!!!

OUR LIVES IN 5 SHORT CHAPTERS

I was having dinner with friends last night when “Autobiography in 5 Short Chapters” was brought up. I had never heard of it before but  when I read it, I thought it was absolutely amazing and it really had me thinking, everyone can relate to this some way or another; this is everybody’s autobiography. Take a look at it, take your time reading it and really understand what is being said.  Let me know what you think and let’s all commit to making this a much shorter autobiography!

****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Autobiography in 5 Short Chapters
a poem by Portia Nelson, published in her book

Chapter I

I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk
I fall in.
I am lost … I am helpless.
It isn’t my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

Chapter II

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don’t see it.
I fall in again.
I can’t believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn’t my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

Chapter III

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in … it’s a habit … but,
my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

Chapter IV

I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

Chapter V

I walk down another street.

****************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

Isn’t that something?  I loved it when I read it the first time! We are all going to make mistakes, its when we continue making the same mistake  or continue to make the same bad decisions that it becomes a problem. Make a vow to yourself today to “walk down another street”.
