CONFUSED BUT FOCUSED.

Have you ever had someone say something to you that you weren’t sure was a compliment or insult? It was something that made you laugh, but think twice about what was said about you. Well, about a month ago I received a message on Facebook just like this so after much thought, I decided to write about it ;).

In the message, a friend of mine wrote:

Hey!

I saw a girl in the mall that reminded me of you she had that same expression you always used to have LOL!  Hard to explain the look but its like “I have no idea where im going but I know exactly how to get there” LOL – confused but focused.

Now…after reading this initially I couldn’t decide if this was an insult or a compliment LOL! But the strange thing about it was I understood exactly what my friend was saying about me. So now I confess to you : I am TOTALLY confused about what God has called me to do and be, but focused and hopeful that I will know it and fulfill it. Being confused about your calling is thee most frustrating thing EVER! I am among many who are searching for their calling in life.  How many of us walk a path knowing nothing about where we are going, but we know what it takes to get there, or we’re confused about what we are supposed to be doing but focused on getting into a better situation than what we are in now. Whether in the area of relationships, or jobs, our family and home life – we are subjected to being confused and unsure about a lot of situations we are in or decisions we have made.

Now, I want those of you who are confused but focused about any area in your life to know one thing : IT’S OKAY! There is nothing wrong with you! You’re not crazy, you’re not slow, you are not a loser, you are not being punished – stop beating yourself up.

I am speaking to you from experience today. I know what it feels like to be confused but focused, feeling lost in the sauce and unsure.  I am learning to embrace my confusion because it leaves me vulnerable to fully trusting God, I have no choice but to be focused on Him. Here are a few scriptures for you to keep on your heart:

  • So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. {1 Corinthians 15:58} – I love this scripture because it reminds you that we are all called to serve others. When you serve others you are putting your cares and worries on the back burner and focused on giving to someone else. When we are too focused on ourselves we leave the window open to start feeling bad about ourselves and that is the last thing we need!
  • Everything has already been decided. It was known long ago what each person would be. So there’s no use arguing with God about your destiny. {Ecclesiastes 6:10} – This doesn’t need ANY explanation!
  • Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. {Philippians 4:6} – Express to God what your feeling, He wants to hear from you. Tell Him what you need and what you’re searching for but never forget to be grateful for where you are right now. After all, you may not be where you want to be, but you are nowhere near what you used to be.

I may not know a ton of things, but one thing I am sure about is God makes no mistakes. Everyone is here for a reason with a purpose, and that includes you and me! If you haven’t already, start a gratitude journal. Oprah is known to have one of these and I will admit it has been an awesome tool to get my eyes off the negative and focus on the positive. All you need is a notebook, pen and 5 things you were grateful for during the day. It’s also SUPER important for you NOT to compare your progress with others’. If your around people who put you down or who are not supportive during your journey GET RID OF THEM! Start getting around people who you admire and are doing something you would love to do. They will be your greatest teachers as well as a healthy support system.

Start small, get exposed to new things and adventures, be grateful for your today and expect the great!

Love Ya!

WHAT NEWS STATION DO YOU WORK FOR?

Proverbs 18:8

The Message (MSG)

8 Listening to gossip is like eating cheap candy;
do you really want junk like that in your belly?

******************************************************************************************************************************************

Gossipers are like news anchors…they know all the news, breaking stories and you can count on them to be on the scene in minutes. They have no problem going local, national or international with what they know. If you tune into a gossipers news report…you are just as part of the news as the anchor dishing it out.

So, what news station do you work for/tune into?  “TMZ”–reporting the latest in celebrity gossip news? CNN or Dateline providing up to date, factual, helpful information, that is meant to be informative, educational and thought provoking?

Have you ever engaged in idle and often malicious talk about the personal affairs of another? Have you ever been the receiver of gossip and participated; whether by listening or responding? Gossip, let’s be honest…we’ve ALL done it in barber shop chairs and beauty salons on sunny Saturday mornings, family outings, in school by the locker, at the lunch table…I think you get my drift ;).

I challenge you to ask yourself these questions:

1. Is gossiping the only way you know how to establish camaraderie with others?

2. Do you need to be the center of attention?

3. Does it make you feel superior to know something negative about somebody that the hearer does not know?

4. Are you envious of your subject’s accomplishments?

5. Why are you willing to use the temple of God, your mind and body, as a “trash receptacle” by being a receiver of gossip?

6. What do you plan to do with the information a gossip shares with you?

7. Are you bored with your life and looking for something to do? Are you in need of more meaningful activities? People who are aggressively pursuing their own goals and aspirations are less likely to waste time discussing the affairs of another.

Proverbs 20:19 warns us :

19 Gossips can’t keep secrets,
   so never confide in blabbermouths.

So why would you want someone like that in your company? Someone that you can’t trust. Most importantly, why would you want to be considered one of those people who are untrustworthy and considered a blabbermouth?

I will close today with something all of our parent’s have said to us at one time or another….IF YOU DON’T HAVE SOMETHING NICE TO SAY…DON’T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!

Love Ya!
