TIMING IS EVERYTHING!

There has been a slight but unmistakable, powerful move of God lately in the area of sports. Whether you love football or hate it, despise basketball or love it – it would be hard to avoid the names Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin. Not only are these young men being spotlighted on major television stations for their awesome athletics, but we are seeing Bible scriptures read on the news and in articles, we are hearing of players being saved and growing in their relationship with God.  They are both young, great athletes,  they both love God and are not ashamed to show it, they have led their teams to incredible game wins AND they both waited their turn. God has taken both of these players, whom not one of us knew much or anything about and has made them household names in less than a year. Their lives have  been completely turned around, but it was ALL done in God’s timing.

Why would you ever complain, O Jacob,
   or, whine, Israel, saying,
“God has lost track of me.
He doesn’t care what happens to me”?
Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?
God doesn’t come and go. God lasts.
He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine.
He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath.
And he knows everything, inside and out.
He energizes those who get tired,
   gives fresh strength to dropouts.
For even young people tire and drop out,
young folk in their prime stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon God get fresh strength.
They spread their wings and soar like eagles,
They run and don’t get tired,
   they walk and don’t lag behind. {Isaiah 40:31}

Neither player was a first choice to be put in the game and in Lin’s case he wasn’t even the second; in fact he wasn’t even drafted and had been riding the bench. But neither player gave up, they continued to cheer their teams on from the side, celebrated in others success AND waited their turn. God promises to renew our strength and mount our wings to where we soar like eagles if we just trust Him.

Have you ever been in a position where you had to ride the bench? Where you had to sit and watch other people shine or succeed? Have you ever felt left out? Mentally, emotionally and spiritually drained? (I sound like an infomercial don’t I?! :)) Imagine how these players felt. I am sure they were discouraged, upset and they might have even been tempted to quit and walk away…but they never gave up.

During their time of “waiting” they did 3 things. They are the same 3 things we must do while we are waiting:

1. Have faith in God and know that He works all things together for your good.

2. Continue to practice and train in the area where God has you placed. Perfect your craft. Get better at what you are good at, because when your time comes, your performance will take center stage.

3. Be patient. God has not forgotten about you, He hasn’t forgotten the dreams and visions He placed on your heart. He knows the time and the place where everything will come together for you, but you have to trust Him.

I will close by reminding you simply of Isaiah 55:11; God says:

“I don’t think the way you think.
The way you work isn’t the way I work.”
         God’s Decree.
“For as the sky soars high above earth,
so the way I work surpasses the way you work,
and the way I think is beyond the way you think.
Just as rain and snow descend from the skies
and don’t go back until they’ve watered the earth,
Doing their work of making things grow and blossom,
producing seed for farmers and food for the hungry,
So will the words that come out of my mouth
   not come back empty-handed.
They’ll do the work I sent them to do,
they’ll complete the assignment I gave them.

Everything God has spoke over your life WILL happen, nothing will come back to Him empty-handed. Don’t give up, don’t get discouraged friends…God’s timing is everything!
